Freestyle Perfection: The 3 Must-Do Drills for Freestyle Swimmers
Your path to a better freestyle starts now.
Happy Sunday!
I am very excited about today’s article. I hope you are too!
I have consulted and debated with multiple competitive swim coaches, colleagues, and national-level athletes from multiple swim teams one simple question: If you could only choose three freestyle drills to improve swimming efficiency, what would they be?
Today, we are going to provide you with a ton of actionable value:
The very best Freestyle drills to improve your efficiency and speed in the water (Swim longer, faster, with minimal effort)
An actionable plan that will explain how to include these drills in our Daily Free Swimming Workouts
Tips and expert advice from multiple swimming coaches on each of these drills
As mentioned last week, all the new articles and strength workouts are the result of the time and effort of multiple swimming professionals who sustain themselves with coaching. This is a cost I am funding myself in order to be able to provide you with the best swimming content on the internet.
If you are up to split the cost with me, a $5 subscription is all I ask. Thank you.
And don’t think that this is it. We have a backlog of educational and informative content coming your way every week, on top of the Swimming and Strength and Mobility workouts.
As a swimming coach, I know well that sometimes drills should not be generalized.
We all swim differently, our bodies are different, and depending on our life and swimming experience, one drill can be more helpful for you than for me.
Having said that, I’ve been in the sport for over 30 years, and I know well that there are drills that are just great overall. Drills that clubs and college coaches continue to provide to their swimmers year after year, no matter the swimmer’s level.
These are the drills I have debated with a group of great competitive swimming coaches.
We have distilled to the essence what we believe are the three best Freestyle drills to achieve your most efficient swim.
Drill Selection Criteria
We thought it was necessary to go through a simple selection criteria when choosing these drills in order to provide the best value to you (aka. the My Swimming Workout swimmer)
The drills have to be easy to learn by reading a description and watching an example video. This is probably the most important criteria, as lap swimmers don’t have the luxury of having a coach looking at what they are doing.
The drills have to be safe, and easy to perform on a lap swimming pool. You know how it is, sometimes it is a jungle out there.
The drills have to address the most common Freestyle technical deficiencies among lap swimmers. Especially if you are a self-taught swimmer.
